Your First Step to Teaching Pilates Reformer

This online CPD course is designed as the entry pathway for Pilates Matwork instructors and medical movement professionals such as physiotherapists who want to expand their teaching onto the Pilates Reformer. By the end of the programme, you’ll be able to confidently deliver a Reformer Induction session, teach a repertoire of foundational exercises, and gain industry insurance to teach Reformer Pilates.

Delivered entirely online, the course combines structured video lessons, guided practice, and assessment via video submission and virtual tutor review. It provides the essential knowledge and skills to introduce clients safely and effectively to the Pilates Reformer.

Learning Objectives

On completion, you will be able to:

  • Teach approximately 30 Reformer exercises with appropriate progressions and regressions.

  • Understand the anatomy of the Pilates Reformer and safe use of all components.

  • Apply teaching cues for lying, seated, kneeling, and standing positions.

  • Incorporate accessories including the Short/Long Box and Jumpboard.

  • Deliver a structured Reformer Induction Workout with confidence.

  • Meet the requirements for insurance as a Pilates Reformer Instructor.

Course Content

You’ll study the Reformer’s structure, safety principles, and teaching techniques before learning the Induction Workout. Lessons cover:

  1. Footwork

  2. Legs in Straps

  3. Hands in Straps

  4. Long Box & Short Box

  5. Elephant Series

  6. Stretches

  7. Jumpboard

Each lesson builds your ability to teach clients safely and progressively across different positions and apparatus components.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of the Mbodies Studio Health & Safety lecture and multiple‑choice test.

  • Pilates instructors must hold a Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) or demonstrate current insurance as a fitness professional.

  • Physiotherapists and medical movement specialists should have prior knowledge of Pilates fundamentals.

Duration & Assessment

  • Study Time: Flexible, self‑paced online learning.

  • Assessment: Submit a video of you teaching the Induction Workout, plus a virtual Zoom assessment with your tutor.

  • Tutor Support: Included via email or messaging through the learning portal. Optional one‑to‑one sessions (virtual or face‑to‑face) are available for £75 if required to demonstrate additional exercises.

  • Certification: Issued upon successful completion and tutor approval.
